Evil spirits have escaped Hades and have started possessing and attacking people all over the city。 When aspiring actress, Chloe is attacked at an audition, she meets Kai, who claims he turn her into Ghost Reaper Girl。Chloe is 28 years old which honestly just makes me SO happy to finally have a lead that isn't a literal child, however this manga just had to go and make it weird by making Kai a "lolicon" I had no clue what that meant until I Googled it (RIP my search history) and found that lolic Evil spirits have escaped Hades and have started possessing and attacking people all over the city。 When aspiring actress, Chloe is attacked at an audition, she meets Kai, who claims he turn her into Ghost Reaper Girl。Chloe is 28 years old which honestly just makes me SO happy to finally have a lead that isn't a literal child, however this manga just had to go and make it weird by making Kai a "lolicon" I had no clue what that meant until I Googled it (RIP my search history) and found that lolicon means "the sexual attraction to young girls" or "an individual fixated on young, generally prepubescent, girls。"Thankfully the characters are older, and they do mention how Chloe is almost 30 multiple times。。。 but they also go into detail about how young she looks and she's constantly being harassed for it。 If the whole lolicon bit was removed I probably would have given this 5 stars - the art is gorgeous & it's very entertaining, but that really killed it for me 😬 。。。more

I came across the manga knowing it probably wasn't going to be a serious manga but a comic relief story centered around ghost hunting。I read from Akissa Saiké (previously known as Akihisa Ikeda) before so I'm not surprised by the fan service but it's still weird to see Kai make pedo jokes about Chloe's appearance。 Kai could have been written more bad ass but instead Saiké wrote him to be a loli con fanboy of Chloe who looks like Light Yagami。What a waste of a character。I like the story so far it I came across the manga knowing it probably wasn't going to be a serious manga but a comic relief story centered around ghost hunting。I read from Akissa Saiké (previously known as Akihisa Ikeda) before so I'm not surprised by the fan service but it's still weird to see Kai make pedo jokes about Chloe's appearance。 Kai could have been written more bad ass but instead Saiké wrote him to be a loli con fanboy of Chloe who looks like Light Yagami。What a waste of a character。I like the story so far it isn't filled with too much fan service, the gothic art is beautiful and the main characters are funny but I could do without the Lolita complex jokes about 28 year old Chloe's child-like appearance。 。。。more

I enjoyed this more than I would admit。 I will definitely read the rest of the series。

I picked this up at a shop based on the cover and a brief glance at the artwork, primarily the opening。 If the writing was as good as the art, I'd give it another star, but frankly, the rather weird fan service did the story a disservice, and most of that comes from the way it's written, not the way it is drawn。 I know, that's backwards from most fan service, but in this case, the creepy parts come from the way the main male characters talk and act。The story's creator had an excellent point abou I picked this up at a shop based on the cover and a brief glance at the artwork, primarily the opening。 If the writing was as good as the art, I'd give it another star, but frankly, the rather weird fan service did the story a disservice, and most of that comes from the way it's written, not the way it is drawn。 I know, that's backwards from most fan service, but in this case, the creepy parts come from the way the main male characters talk and act。The story's creator had an excellent point about one thing, which is that too often the cliche is to make the central character too young to fill the role in the story。 In this one, Chloe is 28, but looks much younger。 She's a mostly-failed actress, with apparently only one significant role so far, and 30 out of her 36 appearances on DVD have been as an extra or a dead body。 Weirdly though, her one "big" role has a following。。。just not of living human beings。 As her real nature comes to light, she is forced to take on a real-world role like the fictional one in that one film, and she has empathy and understanding suitable for her age。 You wouldn't expect, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer to act or think this way, but this character has an extra decade of life behind her reasoning。So, I really like Chloe, and I really like the way she's portrayed in the story。 I do NOT like the way Kai is portrayed, which is just beyond weirdly uncomfortable。 Also, and this is something common to too many manga。。。if you're going to name one of the characters after one from a major other source, like the H。 P。 Lovecraft one used in this story, don't make it so weird and strange that it's distracting from the story。 In this case, a female humanoid Nyarlathotep is all that and more。 I mean, yes, in the Lovecraft stories that Outer God can assume a human form, sort of, but the way it's portrayed here is way too weird。Will I read more of this story as it comes out? I'm not sure。 Not unless I have some reason to believe that Kai is toned down, I suspect。 Is this book awful? No, but a lot of folks may be turned off by some or all of the same things that I found annoying。 。。。more

Hello! I was given access as an advanced reader, so thanks for that。 Anyway, I was super excited for this, but the main issue I had with this is the playful use of the loli-crap。 There’s nothing funny or cute about loli stuff; liking children isn’t something to be glorified in manga。

Not quite sure what I was expecting out of this one。 I was intrigued by the idea of it, and the cover looks super cool。 It's definitely different。 For some reason, I spent the whole time reading this thinking about the Black Cat Manga。 Which is weird because they're really nothing alike。 I'm interested enough to read the next book if I happen to find it at my library, but not necessarily interested enough to go out of my way to find it。 Not quite sure what I was expecting out of this one。 I was intrigued by the idea of it, and the cover looks super cool。 It's definitely different。 For some reason, I spent the whole time reading this thinking about the Black Cat Manga。 Which is weird because they're really nothing alike。 I'm interested enough to read the next book if I happen to find it at my library, but not necessarily interested enough to go out of my way to find it。 。。。more

The underlying theme of ghosts getting inside a young woman is a little too close to bad taste for me。 I’ll probably read the other books just to see if it leads somewhere, but for now, this is definitely not a great concept and execution after everything Me Too was aiming for。

What a fun manga! The story starts off as Chloé is searching for her next acting role as things quickly go sideways。 Chloé soon learns after meeting and befriending a (very spicy 🌶) spirit, Kai, that she is a powerful medium。 Kai is also a huge fan of Chloé’s acting roles and promises to protect her from escaped evil spirits from Hades。 Kai becomes her familiar so he can help her fight off the evil and demonic spirits who are hunting her down in attempt to possess her for her power。 As Chloé and What a fun manga! Anyhow, things get a little hairy and she finally agrees。 Her transformation is into a character she previously played, who basically is spirit slaying Buffy the Vampire slayer with a scythe and dressed up rather…provocatively。 Kai inhabits her body and turns into a weapon, it turns out。 He’s also a huge fan of her work, it turns out, and might even have some sort of weird crush on her, hence the scanty outfits he puts her in。 They do a bit of fighting, fast forward to letting him come home with her where they are attacked AGAIN。 This time by some sort of cat spirit who is on the verge of becoming something evil。 Skipping forward again。 Chloe gets a new follower, a Catboy and Kai convinces her to become a spirit hunter, which turns out to be a terrible idea…So what did I think? It was okay。 I actually liked it。You know, if you like a scantily clad woman running around killing spirits, who also look like they are 12 years old, this one is for you。 I am also getting reverse harem vibes already。 There is a fair bit of fighting, obviously, and in between the creator tries to drop in a bit of humor。 Not my horror dvd collection!” It suggestive, but never crosses the line。 It drops some cliché humor bits, which actually work given all the character’s personalities。 It’s by no means a literary masterpiece。 This is a 'for fun' read。 。。。more

He convinces Chloe to combine forces with him - literally - where she absorbs him and is able to transform into a Ghost Reaper with a magical scythe that is the embodiment of Kai。I read this book around a week before writing this review, and I still don't know how to feel about it。 On one hand, this somewhat feels like a new take on the magical girl trope with Chloe having to transform and have a special weapon, so I appreciate it for that element because the magical girl trope was a big part of my formative years reading manga。 However, there are a lot of problematic moments of fan service and other inappropriateness - Kai continuously says he must be “inside” Chloe for the power to work; Chloe is a “Lolita” and looks like she's a teenager, and that’s part of her appeal to Kai; there are several problematic focal angles that highlight parts of Chloe’s body, often in the middle of action sequences。 Chloe feels a little uncomfortable with the attention from Kai in this manner, but sort of brushes it off because he's handsome - which is not a message I think should be propagated。 I think the overall story is interesting and could be fun if we could get away from the sort of creeper elements of Kai and just focus more on the badass female vibes。The illustrations use a lot of older techniques, to the point where I thought this manga may have originally be published in the late 80s/early 90s, but that could be capitalizing on when Magical Girl was more popular。 There are a lot of "unfinished" line work and strange digital shading that I hope was just in the review copy。 The copy also read Western style from left to right, so that really threw me for a loop。Sara's Rating: 5/10Suitability Level: Grades 10-12 。。。more

I was a little hesitant to read this one based on the cover, but I wound up liking it immensely。 That being said, it will not premiere in my middle school manga collection (not just because of the cover, but there's so riske clothing choices and some super not middle school appropriate innuendos)。 For young adults and adults though, this manga is fun: gives off some Sailor Moon vibes but mixed with the humor of One Peg。 Chloe is an older (*gasp* 28 is old in the world of Manga) aspiring actress I was a little hesitant to read this one based on the cover, but I wound up liking it immensely。 That being said, it will not premiere in my middle school manga collection (not just because of the cover, but there's so riske clothing choices and some super not middle school appropriate innuendos)。 For young adults and adults though, this manga is fun: gives off some Sailor Moon vibes but mixed with the humor of One Peg。 Chloe is an older (*gasp* 28 is old in the world of Manga) aspiring actress whose big gigs are all of her as a character who dies or already is a dead body。 She has a few fans though。 In auditioning for a bigger role, a possessed manager tries to feast on her spirit, soul and body。 She is protected by Kai (who also covets her body, soul and spirit) who is a ghost reaper。 They team up to fight some ghosties (queue transformation/possession scene) and I kinda love that Kai turns into a scythe (an animated one that reminds me of the Fairy Odd Parents for some reason)。 Chloe not only attracts the attention of the manager, his ghosts and Kai, soon she's coveted by another catty familiar: Noel。 I love the triangle dynamic of these three。 Read on if you need a ghosty read。 。。。more

In orbit somewhere around Venus, it feels like。 Chloé saves herself initially, a welcome touch, but then gets rescued by Kai, a hot dead guy who turns out to be a lolicon (shudder), though they somehow salvage this with his love of Chloé, since she just looks underage (and there’s the facepalm)。Turns out Kai works for an organization called Arkham Bullet, which turns out to be run by Nyarlathotep, in case you were wondering how much Chloé Love(craft) was baked into this story, not that they seem to be doing anything specific with that aspect。 It’s all an excuse for catboys and menboys and action and reverse harems。 It’s a mess。But it’s a damn fun mess。 In the same way that Can’t Stop Cursing You thrives on its nonsense, so too does this story。 It is just screaming for the fences and self-possessed of the courage that comes from having a veteran mangaka at the helm。This story is just so goofy and the writing just so punchy that it becomes so silly it’s almost infectious。 Of course the cat turns into a servant of Chloé’s, but then starts acting like, well, a cat, so he’s utterly useless。 Until that scene at the end, which gives a good idea of how we’ll be getting most of the fan service。It all gets better as things go along。 Noel, the cat, is useless, as noted, but speaks in those horrible cat puns and Kai has absolutely zero concept of poor Chloé’s circumstances, using all of her groceries to prepare a welcome feast for her own apartment。 Their domestic set-up is a manga classic, but somehow the story still makes it fun and peppy。There’s a definite ear for dialogue to all this and when you combine it with one of the oddest magical girl stories in ages (seriously, Kai’s form when Chloé transforms is something out of a Hanna-Barbera cartoon) it really is one of those ‘more than the sum of its parts’ deals。 It’s all nonsense, but it rarely lets up (also they don’t dwell on the lolicon stuff, although it is used for a great scene when the spirits from hell pause in their assault to just full dunk on Kai)。3。5 stars - however, I can put up with a lot of nonsense if it’s enjoyable and this is some fine, fine nonsense。 It’s the Cadillac of taking a perhaps needlessly complicated premise and just having a damn good time and making sure the reader does too。 。。。more
